I love black and white images. I learned photography in college, shooting black and white film and I still am drawn to b/w imagery over anything else. I think the b/w just enhances the emotion of my sisters in this picture. We were at the airport meeting my brother after a 2 year mission for our church and I happened to catch my sisters’ reaction as my parents greeted him.

First off, thank you to everyone who participated in Photos for Food. I just got a letter from Second Harvest. Our food drive collected 542 lbs. That will provide approximately 361 meals for hungry people. (if I did the math right…6 lbs = 4 meals). I’m really excited about these numbers and hope we can beat them next year!

That brings me to my second ‘thank you’. I want to thank everyone for 6 wonderful years of business. I’ve really loved doing portrait photography but I’m sad to say I’m taking my photography in a different direction for the next several years. I have 5 kids now and they’re only young once so I need to focus my time and energy on them. I’ll continue photography, just not in the portrait business. I hope to return to it when the kids are older.

I’m not stopping everything though. I will continue to do Better School Pictures each year and will do a family picture food drive each year.

I’m still open til the end of December if you’d like to schedule a holiday shoot.

For all your other photo needs, there are so many talented photographers in the Spokane area that I’m so happy to refer you to. People I would trust with my own family photos. Just shoot me an email and I’ll pass on their info!

Love you all! Thank you so much!

It’s your lucky day! I decided to do a freebie!

I mentioned on my FB page a while back an idea that was percolating. My husband and I were talking with our kids about service and giving to the community. We wanted to do something for our community and this idea was born.

MISTY ALGER PHOTOS FOR FOOD - POSTCARD COSTCO (1)

(thank you Annie from Henson Design Company for the flyers)

There are other great photographers that have agreed to work with me if they are needed. I want anybody who wants a picture to be able to get one. Please make an appt so you’re not waiting around in the cold all morning!

Also, if you’re willing to pass out postcard size flyers or are willing to hang one in your place of business, please contact me! I really want to spread the word!

Or not….I love my 30′s! But I have a dear friend who has been apprehensive about her approaching 30th birthday. She had been planning to throw herself a party but decided not to so I thought to myself…well we can’t have that! I collaborated with several friends and we pulled off a great surprise! It was super fun and she had no idea. Of course I was armed with my camera to capture all the fun and all the things we found on pinterest and recreated. (seriously…where were we before pinterest came along?)

Do you ever get your kids school pictures back and wonder why you bother? Look at it and think….this isn’t right, I can’t see their personality in this! Then Better School Pictures are for you!

lol, look at me sounding like an infomercial.

So anyway….here’s the drill. $35/kid for THREE full size digital files that are all yours to print as you see fit. If you have more than 3 kids in your family, I’ll drop it to $25/kid. If you refer a new client for better school pictures and they book, you can have $20 off your total order.

I’m doing ONE date and TWO times/locations for a little variety.

Saturday, September 10th at 9-10 AM at the Flour Mill (where Clinkerdaggers is)….this will be a more urban look.

AND

Saturday, September 10th at 6-7 PM at Duncan Gardens at Manito Park.

If the first hour of these times fills, I’ll extend both for another hour.

My mom’s goat thinks she’s a super model. :)

Agnes the goat.

In honor of my birthday (today I celebrate my 32nd trip around the sun!) I’m getting around to blogging my favorite pictures from the 4th of July this year.

We made a last minute decision to travel to Walla Walla (my hometown) because it’s legal to light off our own fireworks there and it isn’t here in Spokane. So we packed real quick (I had one child forget underwear entirely) and hopped in the car for a long weekend.

I did remember to bring the obligatory red/white/blue outfit for my cutie baby.

And the kids had some slip n slide fun. (As did Aunti April)

We called my 21 yr old brother to have him pick out the fireworks. Because you can always trust a 21 yr old boy man to get good fireworks and he didn’t disappoint!

We were going to start with sparklers but the boys men got all excited and started with bottle rockets. I was thrilled because it was sunset and the sunset behind my Aunt and Uncles house is always spectacular. I could visit them every evening and just sit in their backyard and be happy staring at the sky. So I grabbed my camera and laid on the ground behind them.

Play time for the dads

(this kinda makes me think of Harry Potter, lol)

Then my brother taught my 5 year old how to shoot a bottle rocket.

My husband was close by to supervise.

There were mortars too but I didn’t bring a tripod or a wide angle lens so I didn’t shoot those. Just enjoyed them!

And when it was all said and done, I had a very tuckered out little girl…

I saw this theme and knew I had to use my all time favorite picture of my middle son. He was 3 here. He’s now nearing 6 and just as expressive!
